FINALLY I can finish my series on KC Restaurant Week 2013. Yes, that happened in January. Yes, it's nearly mid February. Clearly I'm in denial that KCRW is over and I want to draw it out as long as possible.
Let's see, where did I leave off...
On Tuesday (Jan. 22) the Fella and I made the Great Trek North to Trezo Mare. I'm a total fan of this place. The food is really rich, but it's entirely worth it. They make their own pasta IN HOUSE, for crying out loud! The menu was phenom.
I started with the shrimp and polenta (I think Webster House's is still better), moved to the chicken fettuccine (not the white sauce kind!), then got the Trezo chocolate bars to finish. The Fella ordered off the restaurant menu. Guess he couldn't find something that tickled both his taste buds and philanthropic heartstrings. Don't worry, he had order envy later.
As you can see, participating in KC Restaurant Week not only supports local KC restaurants, it also supports Harvesters!
I ate waaaaay too much this Tuesday, and this delicious specimen is the cluprit. They put Parmesan cheese in their olive oil during the bread course!!!
Mind: blown. Tastebuds: satisfied.
Here's that delicious red-sauced chicken fettuccine. What else can I say about it other than the fact that it was perfectly delicious in every way? The sauce was so creamy-good, I liked the little spinach pockets, and there was bacon involved. If this was on the menu, I'd eat here every two weeks.
This is how Trezo Mare does a chocolate bar. Basically, it was a homemade ice cream Snickers bar. SUPER rich. The lighter brown portion was a mousse-y chocolate cream, which topped a crispy, brownie-like bar. Chocolate and caramel sauce and strategically-placed peanuts finished it off. I could only eat one - even with the Fella's help. The other bar would have put me way over the edge. I was already lying on the couch in blissful pain later that night; the bar would have been too much.

On Wednesday night, I had class, so we didn't eat a RW meal. But on Thursday, we went to JULIAN (always a fav!) with each of our mothers.
I think I was the only one of the group to order off the RW menu. Guess no one else was in the giving spirit... Actually, I think the Fella was a little burnt out from all of the rich food.
I had the Campo Lindo Dirty Rice, Smoked Pork Shoulder and Warm Almond Cake.
I SO wish this was on the regular menu because I would eat this ALL the time. The "dirty" rice was kind of spiced like Mexican rice. Excellently seasoned, as always when at JULIAN. And I love me a good egg over easy on top of pretty much anything. I loved mixing the rice in with the egg yoke. PheNOM.
I forgot to take a photo of my smoked pork shoulder (surprise), but it was just as good as it always is. See the JULIAN website homepage for a photo of her fall time pork shoulder dish.
This is the almond cake. I'll be honest, I didn't think I'd like it, but I actually did! I enjoy desserts that aren't crazy sweet, and this one hit the spot just right.

Well, that concludes KC Restaurant Week 2013! Let's view the results:
BEST APPETIZER: Affare - Oktoberfest Black Forest Ham Salad
BEST ENTREE: Trezo Mare - Chicken Fettuccine
BEST DESSERT: Avenues Bistro - Bread Pudding
BEST RESTAURANT: It's a tie between Trezo Mare and Avenues - just can't decide! Both had menus that had multiple wonderful dishes that were equally tasty. Trezo Mare squeaks ahead for the bread and Parmesan olive oil, but Avenues quickly catches up for their fantastic wine list. Avenues wins hands down for their dessert, but Trezo Mare wins on the perfectly cooked shrimp. Simple tie. Guess I'll just have to eat at both establishments again!
All in all, it was a great week of sampling what KC does best: great local restaurants!
